Benefits

Pre-Prep Literacy Classes

Lasting Lessons uses Little Learners Love Literacy, a research-based program delivered in a sequential and explicit manner, ensuring that learners experience success in reading, writing and spelling.  Literacy instruction using Little Learners Love Literacy to develop your child’s literacy growth has added benefits. These include learning to:

  • Share with their friends
  • Sitting appropriately during story time
  • Listening actively to instructions
  • Expand vocabulary
  • Demonstrate correct pencil grip
  • Transition between activities
  • Use scissors correctly

Children will learn about the six early literacy skills about reading and writing that are needed before they even can read and write.  These six early literacy skills are:

  1. Print Motivation: being interested in and enjoying books
  2. Print Awareness: noticing print everywhere, knowing how to handle a book, and knowing how to follow the written word on the page
  3. Letter Knowledge: knowing that letters are different from each other, knowing letter names and sounds, and recognising letters everywhere
  4. Vocabulary: knowing all kinds of words
  5. Phonological Awareness: hearing and playing with the smaller sounds of words
  6. Narrative Skills: describing things and events, telling stories, knowing the order of events, and making predictions.

One-to-One Literacy and Numeracy Instruction

Using Lasting Lessons as your preferred provider of one-to-one literacy and/or numeracy learning guarantees that you will receive an individualised program for your child.

Unlike other private tuition providers, especially the franchised types, Lasting Lessons does not use a “cookie cutter” approach. The one-to-one literacy and numeracy services offered are unique, testimony to Lasting Lessons’ capacity to not only ascertain the reasons behind literacy and numeracy challenges, but also to develop and deliver tailored instruction to meet children’s needs.

No two programs are alike because no two children are alike.  A "one size fits all" approach is not Lasting Lessons’ style, ensuring that children’s learning is facilitated in a customised manner.

At Lasting Lessons, younger students from their Foundation Year to Year 2 are supported with their reading, spelling and writing using the Little Learners Love Literacy Program.  Older students, from Years 3 to 10, are equally supported, but their literacy progression is facilitated through the use of the Barton Reading and Spelling Program.  You can learn about these two programs by visiting:

https://www.littlelearnersloveliteracy.com.au/ and https://bartonreading.com/.

Lasting Lessons uses the Orton-Gillingham (OG)  approach/Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) education.  Unlike a program, OG/MSL is diagnostic in nature, meaning that it responds to children's needs as challenges arise. You can learn more about MSL by visiting: https://www.multisensoryeducation.net.au/.

To support students with their numeracy development, our explicit and multisensory program of choice is the Australian-based Math-U-See program.  The program is sequential, cumulative and confidence-building.  For further insight into how Math-U-See can benefit your child, please visit: https://mathsaustralia.com.au/.

We value our partnerships with parents and we formally report back about learning progress at the end of each lesson.

Lasting Lessons is an advocate in seeing decodable readers in all classrooms and in the roll out of the Year 1 Phonics Check across Australia.
